Top Ten Tuesday: Historical Settings I Would Love to See

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  Today I am listing the top ten historical setting I would kill to see in a book.  Well, maybe not kill, but you get the point.

1.  Roaring Twenties

In this instance, I am clearly excluding The Great Gatsby.  I am greedy and demand more.

2.  1960's

You know, the sixties!  The first man to walk on the moon, The Beatles, the start of Doctor Who!

3.  1990's

Let's see...the music, the music, oh, and the music.  Plus, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

4.  Victorian Age

Yes, there are a lot of novels set in the Victorian age.  However, a lot of them happen to be romances, in which my response is, ew.

5.  World War I

Did you know that when you Google "World War I GIF" a lot of GIFs from the World War Z movie pop up?

6.  World War II

And I don't mean just the Holocaust, which is a popular subject, but the actual war itself.

7.  Pre-Revolutionary America

Not during the actual Revolution, but all the tension beforehand.

8.  French Revolution

Although you should really ignore that Les Miserables GIF above, since that actually took place during the June Rebellion.

9.  Ancient Egypt

Yes, that is a Doctor Who GIF.

10.  Salem Witch Trials

The Salem Witch Trials fascinate me, and I would love to see more books focused on them.

  1. I haven't read The Great Gatsby yet, but I'd love to read some YA books set in the 20s! It's so glamorous, so I think it would make the perfect setting. I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction, so I'm not sure I'm that bothered about it... it would be cool if they tried to make it look less boring/victorian romance-esque though! :D

    1. I am actually reading it right now and am really enjoying it, but would love more '20s books. It is a time of extreme change and fabulous culture. I like historical fiction, as long as it is a STORY and not a textbook. Thanks for commenting, Denise! ♥

  2. Great great picks!! I am all for more 1920's and 1990's. Plus I think the Salem Witch Trials would be so much fun. I really like historical books lately but these are ones I haven't seen yet.

Oooh the Victorian era yes!! I love all the dresses and jewelry from around that era, plus those epic huge manor houses.

    1. EVERYONE THINKS IT IS THE FRENCH REVOLUTION, BUT IT. IS. NOT. And, yes, those DRESSES in the Victorian age. I wouldn't want to wear one myself, though. Thanks for commenting! ♥

  4. We need more books from the 20's! The Great Gatsby is one of my favourite novels, but I think a YA one would be so cool!

    1. The 20's are just so cool. Why aren't more books set in them? And other countries and time period in general, really! Thanks so much for commenting, Emma! ♥

  6. Omg, just YES to all of this list. The 90s looked so cool - I was actually saying to someone the other day how it would have been awesome if I was born twenty years earlier then I would be a teen in the 90s and that would be so much fun. Anyway, the 1920s is also an era that I think is incredibly interesting; I want to dance the Charleston and wear a sparkly dress...
    Loved this TTT, Erin! ♡

    1. Oh, the NINETIES. I haven't read a single book that I can recall in that decade and I REALLY want to. And I get what you mean about feeling like it would be so cool to have been born then, but then again, think of all the books we would have to wait for... Especially if we lived in the twenties! Thanks for commenting, Rebekah! ♥

  7. This is really interesting! I'm really interested in the 60s because YES THE START OF DOCTOR WHO <3 Haha. Also, WWI and WWII are very intriguing as well. There are tons of books that feature WWII, which I love, and it's weird how WWI is never featured that much. Probably because the war was boring??? I don't know. :P Great list!

    1. ISN'T DOCTOR WHO JUST EVERYTHING? Imagine being there for the very first episode, just imagine it. I wouldn't want to be there for either of the World Wars, though... And World War I is super cool to me, but I think less people died, so it isn't as special? Thanks for commenting, Jillian! ♥

  8. YES TO THE TWENTIES! The most glitzy time - I'd love to read more about it too~! And with the Salem Witch Trials...have you read/watched the Crucible? Because that kinda focuses on witch trials (idk if its Salem though) and whilst there aren't any real witches, it definitely has that "you can't trust anyone bc they might be a witch" vibe to it :)

    1. I want to steal a TARDIS and travel to the twenties. Maybe not the Salem Witch Trials, though. And I actually haven't read The Crucible yet, but I want to. I love the whole hysteria of the age, so I would probably like it. Thanks for commenting, Geraldine! ♥
