The Best Books of 2018

Outside of my literature class this semester, I didn't manage to read as much as I would have liked this year. But then I remind myself that there are people who can't read any books at all in a year (the horror), and I feel a little better. 2018 was a big year for me. I graduated high school, moved out, and started college. However, I was able to sneak in some reading in between all of this (and all of the essays I wrote), and the books I read this year were almost entirely spectacular.

Postcards From New England

Every year that I can remember, my family has packed into our car for a 10-15 hour drive to New England to visit extended family. It's how I learned to love road trips and read in the car. Among other things, I learned how to play pool, challenged my boyfriend to endless rounds of badminton, and played mini golf as per tradition. But the cities, the beaches, and the bookstores were the highlights.

Falling Off the Face of the Planet

I have effectively fallen off of the face of the planet the past year or so. Or in other words, the online world. In recent years, my life has been consumed by high school and by my goal of acceptance into my first choice college. Now, I have graduated and been accepted, so I would like my life to take center stage.

The Book Series You're Missing Out On: The Prydain Chronicles in Review

Reading these books feels like coming home. To me, that stands out more than anything else. I haven't felt that feeling since Harry Potter, or maybe with Percy Jackson. But this series moved my heart in a way that even those beloved books did not. This is storytelling at it's finest, high fantasy at its peak, and something that you are all missing out on. Just trust me this one time when I recommend something. If you enjoy fantasy, if you just enjoy a good story, then pick these ones up. Trust me, you're in for one hell of a ride that you won't regret.

The Best Books of 2017

Let's be honest, 2017 wasn't the best year in reading for me. Between school, an internship, dance class, and college applications, plus all the other insanity, I didn't have a lot of reading time on my hands. But there were some books that meant everything to me, and certainly some stand outs. To me, reading has always been a part of my life. As my dad likes to say, reading is my Tardis (for any of you Doctor Who fans out there). Without books, I would be incomplete. Stories and words fill life with meaning and adventures I perhaps wouldn't experience in my own...like evil kings and monsters in sewers. Well, to be fair those things could happen I suppose, but in most cases, I hope not.

New Year + Big News

Happy New Year! I suppose I'm here wondering how to start this off right, as we all do this time of year. I'm not really one for the "new year, new me/new start" mindset; I am too reluctant to let go of the past year when the new one rolls around. I spend my years counting down dates and hours towards something exciting, and yet when the time finally runs out and the new year arrives, I am perpetually surprised. I suppose I get caught up in the mentality of it all, even when time is such a fickle concept that just runs through my fingers and falls away off worlds without me noticing. I don't want to miss a second of it, even while I sometimes wish the seconds away in favor of the future.
