Can anyone believe it is already 2016? More importantly, can anyone believe the first month of 2016 is already gone?
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Rating: 4
My first book of the year did not disappoint. The Graveyard Book is a wonderful adventure.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum
Rating: 4
I don't reread books often, but I am glad I picked this childhood favorite up again.
Doctor Strange No.1: The Coming Slaughter by Jason Aaron and Kevin Nowlan
Rating: 4.5
One of the best concepts and comics I have read yet.
Pretty Deadly Vol. 1: The Shrike by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Emma RĂos
Rating: 3
Fantastic premise, but a bit all over the place.
Rat Queens Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery by Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Upchurch
Rating: 2
Lacking in depth but filled with disappointment.
Cat Person by Seo Kim
Rating: 3
Adorable, but strangely lacking in cats.
The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys No. 1: Whatever Gets You Through the Night by Gerard Way, Shaun Simon, and Becky Cloonan
Rating: 4
A brilliant concept with colorful, vibrant art that I can't wait to see more of.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
Rating: 3.5
A simplistic, eerie story. Neil Gaiman never fails to impress.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
Rating: 2
I cannot tell you the amount of times I cringed.
- I survived my first semester of my sophomore year in high school! I even managed to score the highest on my Algebra II exam (although I honestly think it's probably because everyone else was just worse than I was).
- Okay, so I wouldn't call this one a highlight, but it happened, it was sad, and I will never recover: David Bowie and Alan Rickman both died at age 69 from cancer.
Both were so incredible, but I guess Alan went and truly embraced his iconic role as Snape by following in his footsteps, and Bowie (as I saw someone put it) descended back into the stardust.
- Emma convinced me to read The Picture of Dorian Gray with this fabulous review
- Cait reveals the Lies Bookworms Tell Themselves
- Anna discusses Reading the Book First
- Geraldine talks about how All Book Reviews Are Biased
- Rebekah recommends Books to Non-Bookworms
Thanks for featuring me, Erin! ^_^
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I can't believe you thought Everything, Everything was a 2!! I haven't read the book - but so many people have recommended it to me - I'd love to hear why you didn't like it! Is there a review about by any chance...?
AND CONGRATS ON MATH!! :D As well as surviving sophomore year! Only two years (it's junior and then senior year, right?) left!! :D
No problem, Geraldine--you deserved it. And I know, I was so not expecting to be disappointed by Everything, Everything, but alas... And, since I am replying so late, the review has been up explaining why. AND, YES, MATH! One more semester of sophomore year, then junior and senior (you're right). Then FREEDOM. Thanks for commenting! ♥
DeleteLooks like a solid reading month. Stinks you didn't enjoy Everything, Everything. I really liked it!! Woohoo for a semester down. The rest will fly I am sure. Hope you have a great February!!
ReplyDeleteIt was! It is always nice to find the time to read a lot, even if some books disappointed me. Have a great month, and thanks for commenting! ♥
DeleteKeep reading Erin! You will be famous one day!
ReplyDeleteWill do! Love you, Mom! :)
DeleteThanks for mentioning me at the end! <3
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a pretty good reading month (I'm dying to get round to all the Gaiman you read) though it sucks that you had a couple of two star ratings. I hope you continue to read some great stuff in February, too!
I'm still not over the deaths of Alan Rickman and David Bowie. RIP.
No problem, Emma! ♥ I had a lot of time to read for once, and only have a few Gaiman books left! How will I cope when I run out? Let's just hope for less 2 star ratings this month, eh? And less famous people dying, hopefully. Thanks for commenting!
DeleteI'm pleased you had a (mostly) nice January! And congratulations on your algebra test, I see that as quite an achievment! I have loved reading your blog this month and hopefully you'll read some more great books in February. And thank you thank you thank you for mentioning my post, I'm so happy you liked it ♡
ReplyDeleteSo am I! I just can't believe I did so well on my algebra exam. It was NOT easy, let me tell you. I love that YOU loved my blog this month (as I loved yours, of course). Happy reading and thanks for commenting, Rebekah! ♥
DeleteLooks like you had a downright wonderful January! Great books and great music. Congrats on surviving your first semester! Yay! Also, thank you so much for featuring my post, dear. Love ya! <3 ;)
ReplyDeleteanna
I really did! I mean, finals weren't fun, but completing them was! And all the books and music... I hope your month was equally as wonderful! ❤
