Top Ten Tuesday: Hyped Books I am Afraid to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish, and this week was a freebie week!  The decision was left to moi on what topic this Tuesday's post would be--which was a dangerous thing to do.  But don't fret, I went easy on you guys and am now listing the top ten hyped book that I am terrified to read.  Without further ado, here they are:

I was supposed to read this over Summer break...as you can probably tell, I didn't.  For one thing, all of my library books decided to become available at the same time.  It was a scheme against me, I'm sure.  I had to pick and choose which ones to read--and this one scared me!  There's just so much hype.

I read Sharp Objects back in May--and freaking loved it.  It sends chills down your spine and is definitely not for the faint of heart--meaning that it was just the book for my personal tastes.  But there is a reason I didn't read Gone Girl first--the hype.  If it fails to meet my extremely high expectations, I don't know what I will do.

Oh, the horror.  I have almost picked this one up about a million times.  But the pressure is on.  I adored The Archived with my entire heart (well, what there is of it) and I don't know how I would cope if I didn't love this one with just as much fervor.  I could potentially shatter into pieces or blow away in the wind.  You never do know.

Story time:  months ago, when I was still a tiny little freshman in high school, I checked out this book from my local library.  (Here comes the scary part--make sure to turn on the lights).  I got about a paragraph in--and I returned it.  I couldn't do it--the terror!  This book is so highly acclaimed that I froze!  It was worse than Anna in Frozen, if you know what I mean.

You can't casually scroll through a random book blog without sighting at least one mention of this book somewhere.  It's everywhere!  Now it is even on my blog.  Even though I have yet to read it because, you know, fear.  I AM A SCARED LITTLE BUNNY, OKAY?

At first, everyone loved this book.  And then, everybody hated it.  It's just that kind of story.  Unsurprisingly, this has caused me to be tentative when considering reading it.  The gorgeous cover, however, just may enough to convince me.

I am positive that when I finally consume this book, it will consume me--that's just how phenomenal it supposedly is.  I am not so sure that I am prepared for that yet.  How many books can I sell my soul too?

In case you missed the memo, George Orwell's 1984 blew me away.  What if Animal Farm doesn't measure up to the spectacular piece of art I read before?

The internet exploded when this book was released back in the Spring.  There was so much fangirling I'm surprised the world didn't split in two.  No wonder I'm hesitant to begin this...

I have wanted to read this since before it was even released.  With all that expectation, it would crush me if the book didn't even come close to what I hoped.

  1. I feel like half of this comment is going to be me going OMG ERIN READ THAT BOOK and the other half will be me agreeing with you a hundred percent. I still haven't read ADSOM and I really need to. I still haven't gotten around to it because, like you said, I'm just scared. :P I also really need to read An Ember in the Ashes, as well as Aristotle and Dante (which has been on my TBR for over a year now. For shame). So many books, so little time.

I absolutely loved The Final Empire, The Wrath and the Dawn and Uprooted. I guess they really are hyped, but the Final Empire in particular is so fantastic that it's almost impossible not to like. It takes a little bit of time to get into (because it's the size of a brick), although I think you'll like it. I've read Animal Farm (because 1984 is one of my favourite books) and I did really like it, but in my opinion it just wasn't as good as 1984. And as for Red Queen, I really didn't like that one. So many people do love it, so I think it's just a matter of opinion.

I love the new graphic, by the way! It's so pretty! *drools*

    1. GO AHEAD, I like when people agree with me and recommend books! XD We both really need to read ADSOM, but, oh the pressure! Aristotle and Dante AND An Ember in the Ashes have both been on my TBR for way too long now... There are just SO MANY BOOKS TO READ!

Brandon Sanderson is one author I just KNOW I will love. From everything I have heard, his books are practically written personally for me. I spotted The Wrath and the Dawn at my library earlier, so maybe soon? And Uprooted, too. 1984 is one of my favorites, too, and I WILL read Animal Farm, when I finally get over the book hangover 1984 left me with. I don't know if I'll love or hate Red Queen--we shall see. Thanks for the compliment on the graphic, Emma! I made it at canva.com and it was so easy and fun! Thanks for commenting! ❤

  2. Ha these are definitely VERY hyped books. I read and loved Everything, Everything and Gone Girl and really liked Red Queen and Aristotle and Dante. I REALLY want to read the Wrath and the Dawn. Sometimes the hype can be scary!! Great list!

    1. VERY hyped, yes! I'm glad you loved a lot of them--more the reason for me to finally read them, too. The Wrath and the Dawn is one high on my TBR now. Hype really IS terrifying, huh? Thanks for commenting! ❤

  3. Animal Farm is a total letdown. But 1984 was soooo good. Sometimes authors are just inspired and one book defines them and the rest they write are just meh. That could be a good meme topic.

    1. :( At least 1984 was great. Richard Adams also just had one great book (Watership Down) and a series of not-so-awesome ones. (Love you, dad)! :)

  4. Hype is TERRIFYING. It makes you feel like you have some sort of duty to read and enjoy the book.... and there are consequences if you don't! I've been thinking about reading the Mistborn trilogy too - I heard about it a year or so ago then kind of forgot about it... oops! I agree with you about Everything, Everything... I was SO close to reading it and then... I was afraid I might not like it. This is a really great idea for a list, Erin! :-D And the graphic is lovely ♡

    1. ISN'T IT?! If only hype wasn't so drastic and full of pressures! We should read the Mistborn books together at some point, if we can--finally get it over with! I am sure we will ADORE them. Everything, Everything is one I am SO interested in...maybe one day I'll convince myself to read it--and you, too! Thanks for commenting, Rebekah! (and for noticing the new graphic)! ❤

  5. Uprooted and Gone Girl were soo good! I think you should definitely look into those. If you like light fantasy, then you might like Red Queen. I personally didn't. Everything, Everything was really cute as well, but the book is over hyped. Hope you look into these books soon <3 Benish | Feminist Reflections

    1. Gone Girl and Uprooted are both ones I am hoping to read soon--we'll see! I am still hesitant about Red Queen. I like my fantasy epic and full of adventures (and preferably dragons). Over hyped books are the worst! Thankf for commenting! ❤
