Top Ten Tuesday: Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish, and the theme this week is to list ten book characters who love books just as much as you do!  Although, let's be clear here, I love books the absolute most.

Both Tessa and Will are in love with books, so much, in fact, that they quote them on a regular basis.  To make it even better, they often have arguments about said books, which happen to be marvelously ancient and classic since the setting is in Victorian London.  Could it get any better than that?

If you haven't heard of this book and its leading lady Celaena Sardothien, you must be living under a rock with Patrick the star, because this book is everywhere.  I haven't seen a blog where it hasn't been mentioned.  But the best part about this series isn't the danger and magic--it's Celaena's love of books (and dresses and cake...basically all the things needed to achieve total happiness).

Do I honestly need an explanation for this one?  If you don't know of Hermione Granger and her love of all things bookish, you must have been in a coma for the last decade.

Annabeth has always been my favorite of this incredibly hilarious series about gods and monsters.  She's witty and wise, being the daughter of Athena and all.  You cannot get better than Annabeth Chase.  Which is why it is sad that she has one major drawback:  she wears a Yankees baseball cap...  Why, Annabeth, why?!

Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living in Germany during World War II, steals books.  In case you didn't know, Hitler burned books.  That is why he is evil (plus the eradication of millions of people and all...).  I couldn't get enough of Liesel's determination to learn to read and write, which I am sure many kids wouldn't put as a top priority nowadays.

The title pretty much sums it all up.  Cath (just Cath) is a major fangirl.  She's even famous online for writing fan fiction.  She has posters, shirts, all the merchandise.  She is particularly obsessed with the Simon Snow series, which is basically the Harry Potter of her world.  So she is clearly easy to relate to.  Who doesn't love Harry Potter?  (Voldemort, that's who...)

I read this when I was the itty-bitty age of eight.  Or nine.  Who cares, all elementary school kids look the same to me.  Matilda is/was exactly like me, love of books and all.  Except she is great at math.  Math will be the death of me.

If you can look past the horrible, tacky romance novel cover, this book contains aliens and Kat.  Kat runs a book blog.  Could you get any cooler?  She doesn't just like reading--she writes posts about them and posts them online for the entire human (and extraterrestrial) race to see.

In this futeristic fantasy society, books are rare.  The horror.  But Kelsea, heir to the throne, was lucky enough to have an abundance of them in the little cottage she was hidden in her whole life.  One of her goals as Queen is to make books more commonplace.  If I weren't such a great overlord, I would let her take my place as Ruler of All That is Awesome.

I saved the best for last.  If it was legal to marry an inanimate object, I would be picking out a dress and cake right now (the cake would be red velvet, obviously).  Celia loves books almost as much as I love this book.  Read it.  If not, dishonor!  Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!

  3. I completely forgot about the Night Circus! How could I?
You did make the Clockwork Angel sound fantastically interesting so i might have to pick that one up very soon and see what it is all about. I keep pushing it back on my TBR pile because i while i did not hate City of Bones i also did not really enjoy it. But i keep hearing such wonderful things about Clockwork angel and now knowing that the characters love books and quote them? Give it to me! :)
And i am right there with you with Matilda and the Math stuff.
    Fantastic List :)

    1. Ah, no! I ADORE The Night Circus. The Clockwork Angel trilogy is great, and I totally suggest it, although I do prefer The Mortal Instruments. From my experience, City of Bones is BY FAR the worst book in the entire series. But it only gets better and better! I would recommend you continue it AND read Clockwork Angel. They tie together in some places (although you don't HAVE to read both to understand). Thanks for commenting!

  4. Oh my gosh you have so many of my favourites on this list. Throne of Glass, Clockwork Angel, Harry Potter, Fangirl... book loving characters are the best, aren't they? I still need to finish the Percy Jackson series though *hides in the corner of shame*

    1. I love when book characters also love books. It makes me all happy and gooey inside. But it was harder to find characters than I thought it would be! And, my god, Emma--finish Percy Jackson! :D

  6. Loved The Night Circus and your Mulan reference :D I have Cath, Leisl and Hermione on my TTT as well. I can't wait to read The Queen of the Tearling! I can't find it at Half Price Books. Did you hear that Emma Watson is allegedly producing the film adaptation? I don't know if that rumor is true or not, so don't hold me to it :)

  7. OMG yes to Liesel and Celaena!!! I actually forgot Celaena was a bookworm because when I read the book, I was so focused on her badass personality more than her bookish one. I love both characters! <3 Great post!

    1. I love them both so much! Celaena is SO badass, and not just in the fact she can fight. She's one of the best characters ever. Thanks for commenting, Jillian! :D
