I was forced, against my will, to read this for school. But, in a grand surprise, I really liked this book. It is about the Chicago World Fair and the serial killer H.H. Holmes. It was magic without actually containing magic, and I don't know how the author did it.

Although predictable and certainly not memorable, I did enjoy reading this fun little book this past month. It is very light and summery, very atypical from my usual topics of darkness and magic. It is charming, if nothing else, and would make a cute movie!

I do not understand how I picked up this book, opened the pages, and read each word. I cannot comprehend it. It isn't that The Heir is so horrible--it isn't--but it's just that the last three frustrated me to no end. This one is no exception. Sadly, this series is so entertaining and addictive that I will most likely be reading the next one, too. I have a problem.

Imagine my disbelief when I stumbled upon this at my local library. They have a good selection, but it never crossed my mind to think that they would have the latest Neil Gaiman book. Trigger Warning did not fail to wow me, especially the Doctor Who story and a Snow White/Sleeping Beauty mash up--both of which left me breathless. Read it.
Looks like you still had a good book month even with school! Since You've Been Gone is one I bought not too long ago and hope to read soon. Hope you have an awesome September!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't horrible! Since You've Been Gone is seriously cute. I hope you enjoy it! :D Thanks for commenting!
DeleteYay! Prizes for quoting Dory! I swear her wisdom is never ending. School is just ugh. I went back today (despite how hard I tried, I couldn't find Narnia in time) and meh. I think that sums up school quite nicely. I'm in Year 11 now, (age 15-16), is that the same as sophomore year? Well done on your library find! (I'm at that part in ToG where Celaena has arrived in Rifthold and discovered the castle library sooo yayayay!) Here's to trying to successfully balance school, blogging and reading! Honestly I'm gonna need all the help I can get. ♡
ReplyDeleteDory is my spirit animal. School is an indescribable evil. Maybe not Narnia, but there's still time for a magical awakening of supernatural abilities? I think that "meh" is an accurate depiction. Sophomore year is ages 15-16, yes, and after there is junior and senior years, then college. Libraries are MAGICAL. Yay for ToG! I hope that you're loving it! I like that Celaena is a reader. Balance? Hahaha...we can try. Thanks for commenting, Rebekah!
DeleteAw no way, your school starts in August? Why can't they wait until September to ruin your life? Haha good luck with that. Your relationship with The Heir accurately describes my feelings about these books too lmao I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS EVEN THOUGH THE CHARACTERS AND WEAK WORLD-BUILDING PISS ME OFF.
ReplyDelete"Doctor Who story and a Snow White/Sleeping Beauty mash up"?? What on earth is Neil Gaiman writing these days, that sounds interesting.
Isn't that awful? If only I attended Hogwarts... Sadly, my letter has been lost in the mail for the past four years now. The Selection books are SO POORLY WRITTEN BUT I CAN'T STOP. I probably need an intervention. Addicting Series Anonymous? Read Neil Gaiman, do it! He has been writing strange and wonderful stories that are intensely enjoyable. Thanks for commenting, Ju!
Delete*cries with you because school* I hope the start of your year has been great though and that your teachers are amazing and that you at least have some friends in your classes. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I felt the same way about Since You've Been Gone - it was a great light read, but not really anything more than that. Thanks for sharing this great recap! ♥

School is a giant cry fest. It hasn't been a bad start, but the homework is killing me! There are a TON of my friends in my classes, though, so it isn't bad. :D Thanks for the happy wishes!
DeleteSince You've Been Gone is just that! Still very fun to read, though. Thanks so much for commenting, Zoe!
SOPHOMORE YEAR YASSS. I started out my sophomore year 2 months ago, and it is torture right now because there are so many cliques and drama going on, it makes my head explode! Also, I have a speech and mid-quarter exams next week so I am bound to die real soon. Haha. *end school stuff*
ReplyDeleteI actually have a copy of Since You've Been Gone that my friend lent me, and I can't wait to read it. I'm sorry it wasn't that memorable for you! Can't wait to know what it's about, though, and yay for all the books you managed to read ^_^
Sophomore year is so stressful! Why is there so much drama? It's high school, were teenagers--there isn't that much to gossip about. I hope your speech and exams go well. Those things are the worst. School in general is just the worst. ;D
DeleteI hope you really like Since You've Been Gone! I'm glad I read it, even if it wasn't perfect. Thanks for commenting, Jillian!
I hope school doesn't get too stressful! I (luckily) don't start until Monday, but just the thought of it is already leeching out my soul. *shudders*
ReplyDeleteDr Who and Neil Garman? I NEED to read Trigger Warning now. I'm glad you liked it! And I haven't read The Heir, but I don't see myself doing so because America just frustrated me off to no end in the original trilogy. I've owned Since You've Been Gone for over a year now and I still haven't read it. I will, though. Someday.
