Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Read for a Good Cry

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week I am here to suggest books that will make you sob ugly tears.

1.  Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I loved this ending, but it still made me--me--cry.  It wasn't pretty.

2.  The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Really, it should be expected that a book about World War II and the Holocaust will cause torrents of tears.

3.  All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

This is such an honest, brutal book about the horrors of World War I, and it can really get to you.

4.  Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Anyone who has ever read this knows how that ending messes with your heart.

5.  We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

By the end of this, I can guarantee even the toughest of hearts will be aching.

6.  Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

This book, and series, has a tendency to rip out your heart and stomp on it.

7.  Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

While not my favorite book, it is touching, that cannot be denied.

8.  The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Everybody knows about the flood of tears this book promises to bring by now.

9.  My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult

I read this a few years ago, and it is beyond sad.

10.  Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls

I read this so long ago that all I can really remember is how sad it was.

  2. I cried and cried and cried at the ending of The Book Thief. Then I cried all over again when I saw it in the cinema because... well, I'm not even gonna go there! You probably know what I mean! But ahh We Were Liars is so brilliant and so moving and I LOVE The Infernal Devices trilogy so much. ♥

    1. That ending really hits you in the heart, doesn't it? I found the movie a bit lacking, however. I wonder what a We Were Liars movie would be like? Thanks for commenting, Rebekah! ❤

  6. YESSS TO THESE OMG YES. And I even know what would happen in The Book Thief, because I saw the movie first (#shame) but I still was so ridiculously emotional reading it I nearly CHOKED. Ahem. And TFIOS. <3 Endless love and pain. Omg, this is just a list of painful books, Erin, and I love it.

    1. NEVER SEE THE MOVIE FIRST IF YOU CAN HELP IT, CAIT. NEVER. Ahem. I read the book first like a PROPER bookworm and it made me more emotional than the tornado warning going on at the time. Anyway, I'm glad you love this sad list of books, I guess? Thanks for commenting! ❤

  7. I have a confession... I didn't cry in TFIOS. I didn't even think it was very sad! I know, I'm heartless and all that (pfftt, I TOTALLY cried in Allegiant... of course... definitely (*sarcasm*)). I really want to read My Sister's Keeper, but I hope it doesn't make me feel too sad! I loved the film of The Book Thief too :D

    1. HOW? Even I did, and I wasn't much in love with it. I'm pretty heartless, I can't remember the last book I cried in, but I definitely cried in Allegiant the most. HOW COULD YOU NOT. SERIOUS QUESTION. Thanks for commenting, Denise! ❤

  8. I'm with Denise, I didn't cry in TFIOS. I really didn't like TFIOS to begin with but Allegiant? BRB CRYING UGLY TEARS. Anyway, I'm reading The Book Thief for a book club and I know I'm going to cry. Pass the tissues.

    1. I did, but I was thirteen, and no one can trust thirteen year olds. Except for when I cried over Allegiant. THAT was legit. The Book Thief is so emotional. You'll also need some cookies. Thanks for commenting, Anna! ❤
