Top Ten Tuesday: Classics I Want to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week I was granted the freedom to choose my topic, and I decided to list the classic novels I want to read sometime in the foreseeable future.

1.  The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

I recently downloaded this onto my Nook, so this won't have to wait too long, huh?

2.  Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Yes, dad, I know I should read this.  I'm getting on it, I swear.

3.  The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

I have heard nothing but great things, and Emma's recent review convinced me.

4.  The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

I've been holding out on reading this in school, and it seems my wait should soon be over.

5.  The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

This should be convenient, since I have spotted a copy in my dad's library.

6.  Animal Farm by George Orwell

Not only is the idea intriguing, but I loved George Orwell's 1984.

7.  Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Frankenstein, as people seem to have forgotten, was actually the doctor, not the monster.

8.  Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

All comments disregarded except for this:  what is up with that cover?

9.  Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

I have been meaning to read this for far too long now.

10.  Peter Pan by J.M Barrie

As most fairy tales, the source is supposedly much more gruesome than the Disney adaptation.

  1. The Great Gatsby was one of the most inspiring and beautiful books I've read. The movie was cinematically stunning as well! Les Mis! I've seen the musical countless times, but I've never gotten around to reading it. It's an investment that's for sure!

    1. I'm glad to hear that, since I am reading it in English class this year. I also really enjoyed the movie, for that and Les Miserables. I can't wait to read the book, but will have to wait for summer break, I think. Thanks for commenting! ❤

    1. Admittedly, I'm not much of a classics person, either, but have these few I feel I should give a chance. I have heard The Little Prince is a good one. Thanks for commenting, Anna! ❤

  4. I've read Frankenstein and it was surprisingly easy to read! Plus it was pretty gothic and perfect for halloween. I really want to read all the other books on your list, except for Les Mis because whoa, that book is HUGE!

    1. That's what I have heard! I might wait for Halloween to read it, actually. I will definitely have to wait for summer break to read Les Miserables, since, yes, it is a BRICK of a book. Thanks for commenting, Tasya! ❤

  5. I loved reading the Great Gatsby! I read it for English at school, and only really appreciated it after analysing it and everything! The Picture of Dorian Gray is fantastic as well - Wilde is just so witty :D The Catcher in the Rye, I really related to at some points! I hope you get around to reading all these classics sometime soon!
Also, idk if you're interested, but Steph @ Smart Dames Clever Books is hosting a Les Mis read along right now! Here's the link :)

    1. Then I should, too! I should be reading it this year in my English class and am pretty stoked, not going to lie. I'm so happy to hear you enjoy a lot of these classics. They are something I want to read more of. And thanks so much for that link to the Les Miserables read along! I will for sure be checking that out. Thanks so much for commenting, Geraldine! ❤

  6. Oh my days, this is such a great list. Every book on it I either have read or want to. I've owned Farenheit 451 for over a year now and I still haven't got round to reading it, but I really want to soon. I got Les Mis for Christmas and I really hope I can read it relatively soon, although I'll probably have to wait until the school holidays because it's so long! Also, thanks for giving my review of Dorian Gray a shoutout! <3

    1. Thanks, Emma! ❤ Classics are something I have been meaning to read more of, so maybe this year I'll finally get around to it. And I have heard FABULOUS things about Les Miserables, so I have no doubt we will both enjoy it--when we finally get around to reading it! I loved your review of Dorian Gray and thanks for commenting!
